Who we are
Caringlist is a senior care directory and matching service run by Caringlist, 808 Shandrew Dr, Naperville, IL 60540. We are the business responsible for the personal information described here. Caringlist is offered to people in the United States only. If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another country, please do not use the service; we do not knowingly collect information from people outside the United States.
What information we collect
- Account information: Your name and email address when you create an account, and a phone number if you verify one.
- Inquiries and care requests: When you ask providers to contact you, we store your name, email, phone number, ZIP code, and anything you write in your message, so the providers you chose can respond.
- Care needs: The kind of care you are looking for and the needs you tell us about, such as memory support, help with mobility, medication management, or recovery after a hospital stay, along with your timeline and budget range. This is health-related information about you or the person you care for. See Health-related information below.
- Quiz answers and care finder notes: Quiz answers stay in your browser and travel to the results page as search filters. A note you type into the care finder is analyzed automatically to pick out care type, needs, location, and urgency, then discarded. We never store the note.
- Location: A ZIP code you enter; your device location if you grant it, which stays in your browser and is used only to sort results by distance; and, when we have nothing else, an approximate location from your network connection so the first page of results is nearby. You can change your location at any time.
- Messages: Messages you exchange with providers through Caringlist.
- Provider profiles: If you are a care provider, the information you share on your listing, including business name, address, photos, and description.
- Applicant information: If you apply to a job posted on Caringlist, your name, email, phone number, your answers to the employer's questions, and the resume you upload.
- Usage data: The pages you visit, without search filters or location details, the kind of device and browser you use, and how you arrived at the site. We do not record your screen, your typing, or your clicks.
How we use your information
- To match families with senior care providers based on their needs and location.
- To deliver inquiry messages and care requests from families to the providers they chose.
- To deliver job applications to the employer you chose, and to tell you when they update your application.
- To manage provider accounts, listings, credits, and Careers plans.
- To send email about your inquiries, messages, applications, and account, such as a reply from a provider or a password reset.
- To analyze text you type using AI models. The message in an inquiry is scored for how complete it is, a care finder note is turned into care categories, and a message to a provider is scanned for care needs. The text is used to produce those categories, and we send these requests only to model providers that do not keep prompts. We also use AI to help employers draft job posts and to draft our own articles and social posts, which are labeled as such.
- To send occasional news and announcements to account holders and to people who have contacted us. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and signed-in users can turn it off under notification settings. Email about your inquiries, messages, applications, and account is separate and does not stop when you unsubscribe.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and understand which parts of the site are used.
How we make money, and what we share
Caringlist is free for families, because you select which providers you want to reach out to you. Only those providers receive your contact information, and they pay us a fee for it. If you don't authorize us to reveal your data, we will not share it. Trust is important to us. We don't like spam calls either.
When you authorize providers to contact you. The providers you selected can see that a request arrived, along with the care type, timeline, and budget range you entered. To see your name, email, phone number, and message, each of those providers pays us a fee. A provider you did not select is never offered your information, and your request is never passed along to their competitors.
Why we call this a sale. Some state privacy laws treat that fee as a sale of personal information, even though you picked the provider and asked to be contacted. So we say it plainly, and we give you a way to opt out at any time: see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. We do not share your information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
When you use our search tools. Providers in your area can see anonymous demand (that someone is looking for a given type of care in a given state), so they know whether families need them. They cannot buy your identity from that. Your contact details are released only after you authorize a specific provider to receive them.
What we don't do.We don't sell your information to data brokers, advertisers, insurers, or marketing lists. We don't secretly sell placement: when a provider pays for extra visibility, the listing is labeled Featured. We don't cold-call you on a provider's behalf, and providers may not resell your details after receiving them.
Service providers. These companies process information for us, only to do the work we ask of them and under contracts that say so:
- Supabase for our database, sign-in, and file storage.
- Cloudflare for the network in front of the site and for the bot check on our forms.
- Google Maps Platform for provider listings, geocoding, and the map on a listing.
- OpenRouter, and the AI model providers it routes to, for the text analysis described above.
- PostHog for product analytics and feature flags, hosted in the United States.
- Ahrefs for aggregate web analytics.
- Resend for delivering email.
- Twilio for one-time verification texts.
- Stripe for payments. We never see your card number.
The service itself runs on servers we operate in the United States. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a person.
Health-related information
Finding care means telling us about health. This section is our consumer health data notice for people whose state law calls for one, including Washington residents.
- What we collect: the type of care sought; needs such as memory support, mobility help, medication management, or recovery after a hospital stay; timeline and budget; and any health details you choose to write in a message or request.
- Where it comes from: you. We do not buy or infer health information from other sources.
- Why we use it: to match you with providers and to describe your request to the providers you chose.
- Who receives it: the providers you selected, after they unlock your request, and the service providers listed above so they can run the service. No one else. We do not sell health information to anyone other than the providers you chose, and we do not use it for advertising.
- Your rights: you can see it, have it deleted, and withdraw your authorization, as described under Your rights below.
Cookies and analytics
We set a sign-in cookie so you stay logged in, a preferences cookie for things like your collapsed sidebar, a consent cookie that remembers your analytics choice, and a first-party visitor cookie that lets us count how many people view a listing. Our analytics tool, PostHog, sets its own cookie to tell repeat visits apart. Ahrefs counts page views without setting a cookie.
A notice on your first visit lets you opt out of analytics. If you do, PostHog and Ahrefs are not loaded and we do not set the visitor cookie. Analytics pageviews never include your search filters or location. We do not record sessions. When you are signed in, we tell PostHog your email address so feature flags can be turned on for your account; that is the one piece of identifying information analytics receives. Your browser settings can also block cookies, though signing in will not work without the sign-in cookie.
Job applicants
When you apply to a job, your application goes to the employer who posted it and to no one else. That employer sees your name, contact details, answers, and resume so they can consider you for the role. They handle that information under their own policies once they have it, and they may not use it for anything other than hiring.
We keep your application until you withdraw it or delete your account. Withdrawing an application removes the employer's access to your resume on Caringlist and deletes that copy. The resume saved to your profile is yours to replace or remove at any time, and changing it never alters an application you already sent. We do not sell applicant information, and employers never see applications sent to other employers.
Employers who post jobs agree to use applicant information only for the hiring decision it was sent for, and our application builder refuses questions about things employers may not ask on an application. If you believe an employer has misused your information, tell us and we will look into it.
How long we keep information
- Quiz contact details and requests we rejected as spam: 30 days.
- Phone verification codes: 7 days.
- Anonymous search events (care type, ZIP, approximate location): 90 days.
- Our log of which notifications we sent you: 180 days.
- A care request stops being offered to providers when it expires, usually within a few weeks of being submitted, and stays in your account until you delete it.
- Inquiries, messages, applications, resumes, and your account: until you delete your account or ask us to delete them.
Your rights and choices
- See and download your information. Signed in? Your settings page has a Download my data button. Otherwise, email us.
- Delete your information. Your settings page has a Delete account button that removes your account and the information tied to it. A provider listing you claimed returns to being an unclaimed listing. Otherwise, email us.
- Correct your information. Edit it in your account, or email us.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your information, or limit the use of sensitive information. Use Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. We will stop releasing your details to any new provider. Providers who already received your information because you authorized them may still contact you about the request you sent, and you can ask them directly to stop.
- Stop marketing email. Use the unsubscribe link in any such email, or turn it off under notification settings.
- Opt out of analytics. Use the notice on your first visit, or clear the consent cookie to see it again.
We respond to requests within 45 days. We may ask you to confirm your email address before we act, so that no one else can read or delete your information. You may have someone submit a request for you if they can show you authorized them. We never treat you differently for exercising these rights.
Children
Caringlist is for adults. You must be 18 or older to hold an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Data security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and access controls on our databases. While no system is perfectly secure, we take reasonable steps to safeguard your data.
Changes to this policy
When we change how we handle information, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we tell account holders by email.
